FAQ

Things to do at Shott’s Lake

Is there hiking available on the property?

Yes, we have approximately 6 km of marked trails by the lake and throughout the woods.  In the winter, these trails will be available for snowshoeing and possibly x-country skiing in the future.

Can we swim or use personal equipment in the lake?

Schott’s Lake is a 20-acre natural spring-fed lake.  There is no swimming in the lake as it is muddy and boggy!  The use of personal equipment, e.g. stand-up paddleboards, canoes, boats, etc. are not permitted in the lake at this time.

Can we fish in the lake?

Not yet! Our future vision is to have a landscaped area around the lake with a floating dock.  We plan to stock the lake with trout for all those young budding fishermen!

Is there a restaurant on the property?

The Ranch House restaurant is in our main lodge and seats 70 in the main dining room.  In the summer you can enjoy the outdoor patio overlooking the lake.  Our Executive Chef’s rustic Canadiana food is prepared from scratch.  We partner with local producers to bring fresh farm-to-table ingredients to our menu.  Reservations are highly recommended to avoid disappointment.

Do you host weddings, family reunions and corporate events?

You dream it and we will help you create it!  We have a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces available including a 50-seat Conference Centre with modern audio/visual equipment. Contact us and we will help you plan your wedding, conference, or retreat.

Do you have a playground?

We are planning a nature playground with lots of wood and ropes in 2022.

Do you have full hookup sites?

We have 34 sites that have electrical and water hookups. None of our sites have a sewer connection. We have a central dump station available for all camping guests at no charge.

Can we rent a year-round campsite and leave our trailer over the winter?

The campground is open from mid-May to mid-October.  All trailers must be removed from the campground during the off-season.

Can we build permanent decks and gardens sheds on our campsite?

As our campsites are seasonal, no permanent structures allowed.

Do you offer seasonal (May-October) long-term stay?

Our vision is to have many families pass through the resort and enjoy our kid’s programs and special events.  If you are interested in renting a site for a longer duration during the mid-May to mid-October season, the rates will be discounted as follows:  1st month: 10% off daily rate, 2nd month: 20%, 3rd month: 30%, 4th month: 40%, 5th month: 50%, and 6th month: 60% off daily rate.

Note: Online booking is not available for these discounts. Please contact us directly to discuss long-term stays.

How many people can occupy a campsite?

A maximum of 6 people may occupy a campsite unless they are of the same family unit.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is 3pm and check-out is 11am for all accommodations.

What are your quiet hours?

Quiet hours are from 11pm to 7am.

Can I use my generator?

Generator hours are from 8am – 9pm and cannot be over 85dB.  Constantly running generators is considered excessive noise unless required for medical reasons.  Please use your generator in moderation.

Firewood available?

Firewood can be pre-purchased when you book your campsite online or in-person when you check-in.  Firewood is $20 per load (Kubota UTV load) and delivered to your campsite after arrival.

Can we bring our own firewood?

Local firewood permitted. (Please be mindful of out-of-province disease risks.)

Do you have Wi-Fi?

Guest Wi-Fi is accessible near public buildings.  Schott’s Lake is a remote location so performance can be intermittent.

Do you have pull-through sites?

Site 47 is a pull-through.

Are your campsites surrounded by trees?

We are located on a 160-acre woodland property bordering on the back of Banff National Park backcountry.  This is a new campground built in 2020. We designed our sites to be spaced apart. Some mature trees exist throughout the campground and there is a multi-year planting plan to bring natural foliage and additional trees to the area.

Why can’t I book campsites online in May?

Our online campsite availability begins June 3, 2021.  Due to weather uncertainty in the Rocky Mountain foothills in May, we have decided to block the online bookings until weather forecasts are more predictable.  Please check back later.

Can I change or cancel my campsite reservation online?

Campsite reservations can only be changed or canceled by contacting Schott’s Lake directly (phone or email).  There is a $10 administration fee for all changes or cancellations.

Do you charge campsite reservation booking fees?

Online booking fees are $5/reservation.  Telephone/email booking fees are $10/reservation.  These fees are non-refundable.  Payment in full is required at the time of booking (including the reservation booking fee) and is charged to the guest’s credit card.
